Just the thought of visiting the dentist strikes fear in the hearts of many people, probably more than you’d think. If this hits home for you, you may have heard about nitrous oxide as a way to make treatment more comfortable. Commonly called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation used in many dental offices. But will it actually put you to sleep? Usually, no. Nitrous oxide is intended to help you relax while allowing you to remain conscious and responsive.
